Sharing with others

Sorry I haven't been blogging very much.  I've been busy bouncing between things a lot lately.  Even still, I've been on the look out for things to share.  I've haven't had time to comb through all my blogs, so there may be a few things left to learn.  For now this is what I have:

First up is a newly published independent author, James B.  He created his own website that includes a blog where he talks about the technical side of writing and self-publishing: http://dttla.posterous.com/

I'm sure he'd love to have you come to visit and learn more.

For those of you who have always wondered how to use those Smashwords coupons you see or hear about.  Coral R. put in some step by step instructions.

Mark W. has shared some information about pricing your e-book that you just might find interesting.

What about an e-book, is it any better or worse than a real book? Bloggity blogger is someone I met on Goodreads.com and I like his thoughts on this subject.

Along with everything thing else that I've been doing and learning...I started a twitter account.  I'm not on it 24/7 but I do find myself over there from time to time.  If you discover yourself there and want to give me a shout out.  You'll find me @LynnHallbrooks where I often re-tweet my daily column from Independent Authors and Writers or iauthors.org for you twitter folks.  Who knows, I might even put this blog on my tweets.

Does anyone out there have something of interest to share with other up and coming independent authors? How about something new for more experienced authors to learn about? Please feel free to post a positive and G-rated comment.

Until we meet again, have a great one!

Speaking From the Heart

There has been a lot of things going on both personally and professionally that have kept me busy.  I am here now though.

I'd like to start by sharing a fellow author's guest blog.  He tells some of his story and how he came to be a writer.  In my humble opinion, the best part is the excerpt from one of his books.

My job as columnist for Independent Author and Writers' website, I get to meet a lot of interesting people.  One of them is K. Eckland who put her money where her mouth was.  She is scheduled to do a book signing this week in Bogota!  I wish her nothing but the best in her ventures.

Another author friend, Doug Depew, got his new book out this weekend which I feel sure that his fellow military veterans will enjoy.

I know that I'm missing a few other people and their books.  So to anyone that I am missing their latest books and announcements, please feel free to post them in the comments section.

Meantime, I hope everyone has a great one!

One Day At A Time

I am trying to remember to take each day as it comes.  My best laid plans for getting a certain amount of work done...usually doesn't happen because of this thing called life. It has a tendency to get in the way.  No matter what the reason for the delay, I still plug along doing my best.  Sometimes, I am rewarded with a treasure that I didn't even know that I was looking for.

Yesterday, I happened upon a book review by a new friend, James, on Goodreads.  The book was about e-book publishing.  I thought great, if James likes it then I'm sure some of my followers might as well.  James' review of The (almost) Complete DIY Guide to eBook Publishing ran on both Goodreads as well as his blog.  James rated it four out of five and very useful for up and coming authors/writers.  I had one minor disagreement with something he said.  I posted a comment and he agreed that my suggestion was a good one.  So if you would like to learn more, please be sure and see what was said on either Goodreads or James' blog.

My bonus treasure came when I clicked to learn more about the book and its author, Coral Russell.  Her author picture consisted of a t-shirt that said: Eat, Sleep, Read

I started to laugh out loud.  I  had to explain to my friend why I was laughing.  So afterwards, she wanted to know where Coral had gotten the t-shirt.  After a chat with my fellow author (who is a very nice person by the way)  it turns out that Coral isn't wearing the shirt.  It is an image from cafe press' reading section. I will have to warn everyone...this site can be addictive and can lead to serious drain on your wallet and time if you allow it to take over.

Welcome to Coral and our other new followers.  Hope you have a great one!

Remember that even though you may not be where you thought you should be or doing what you set out to do.  Life has a way of putting you exactly where you needed to be, doing what you needed to be doing.  I have to admit sometimes, I feel like one of God's strong-willed stubborn characters that is trying to get my own way. Then He has to re-write my scenes from time to time so I will get to the final chapters of my life's story - the way He wants it to be. It can be very humbling. Anybody else ever get that feeling?
